Bella Galasso Announces New Single “Paperweight,” First Look at Upcoming EP Bury These Questions

Montreal singer-songwriter Bella Galasso will release “Paperweight” on September 17, marking the first single from her upcoming EP Bury These Questions.

There are some songs that arrive with a clear idea from the very beginning. Others reveal what they are about somewhere along the way. For Bella Galasso, “Paperweight” became the latter. Set for release on September 17, the new single introduces the world to Bury These Questions, Bella’s forthcoming EP and an intimate collection of songs built around the questions, anxieties, and thoughts that tend to become louder when we are left alone with ourselves. Where much of the EP looks inward, “Paperweight” ultimately looks outward. It is a song about the people who help us stay grounded, the relationships that provide a sense of safety and connection, and the comfort of knowing that you do not always have to carry everything by yourself.

The People Who Keep Us Grounded

“Paperweight” was written collaboratively by Bella, Bennett Sobel, and Olivia Ridgely during an Evergreen songwriting camp. The song began with a desire to explore something relatively simple, but deeply human: what it feels like to have someone in your life who makes you feel supported, understood, and connected. The title became a metaphor for that feeling.

A paperweight is something that keeps things from being swept away. In the context of the song, it represents the people who keep us grounded when our own thoughts threaten to carry us somewhere else. The collaborative nature of the recording further reinforces that idea.

Bella invited her bandmate and friend Briahnna to sing alongside her on the track, turning what could have been a solitary song into something shared. The additional voice does more than add another musical texture. It becomes part of the song's emotional language, embodying the warmth and reassurance that “Paperweight” is ultimately about.

Having someone else sing with Bella makes the concept feel tangible: this is not simply a song about being supported. It is a song that sounds like support.

Bringing “Paperweight” to Life

Following the songwriting camp, Bella brought the material into the studio with Matt Nozetz of Avbury Studios. The goal was intentionally straightforward: keep the songs as raw and stripped back as possible, allowing the writing and performances to remain at the centre. Rather than overwhelming the songs with production, Bella and Matt approached each decision with the material itself in mind. Different microphones were tested for both guitar and vocals, with the studio process focused on finding the sounds that best served each song. That approach became particularly important across an EP that moves through different emotional spaces. The warmth and intimacy of “Paperweight” make it a fitting final chapter for a record that spends so much time inside Bella’s head.

From Questions to Connection

The emotional arc of Bury These Questions is not necessarily about finding definitive answers. It is about what happens when you stop demanding them from yourself. Across the record, Bella documents the thoughts that can become difficult to escape: questions about relationships, ambition, identity, uncertainty, and whether things will ever feel different. The songs allow those thoughts to exist without necessarily resolving them.

By the time “Bury These Questions” arrives, there is a subtle shift. The possibility emerges that perhaps some of these questions can finally be put down.
