Press Release - Emerging Canadian Artist Theo Day Releases New Single “Somewhere Shallow”
A Folk Fusion Anthem About Living in the Moment
Emerging singer-songwriter Theo Day invites listeners to slow down, breathe, and enjoy life’s simplest pleasures with the release of his heartfelt debut single, “Somewhere Shallow.” Listen HERE.
Blending the warmth of North American folk with the rich textures of tradition among friends, “Somewhere Shallow” offers a refreshing reminder to find joy in the present. At its heart, “Somewhere Shallow” wrestles with the choice between chasing a sophisticated, hard-driven life and embracing a slower, more peaceful path. The title itself reflects that balance - “You can bury me 6 feet deep or bury me shallow, it makes no difference to me” - a lyrical shrug at life’s pressures in favour of contentment.
“This song is about succeeding by enjoying and experiencing every aspect of life,” says Theo Day. “It’s not about waging your happiness on whether you’ve hit a goal or fallen short.”
Written from the combined perspectives of Theo and his father, “Somewhere Shallow” was the first song he ever performed live to a large audience. The song went on to win the El Dorado singer-songwriter contest in late 2024, which inevitably kick-started Theo’s professional artist journey. The track’s blend of traditional violin progressions, nostalgic storytelling, and an uplifting, communal chorus captures both personal history and shared celebration in an anthemic campfire way.
“There’s a place I’m from, where we dance all night and drink to get drunk. I love the sound of my friends all singing out of tune,” Theo’s favourite lyrics that encapsulate the song’s emotional core: belonging. It’s a snapshot of a moment where imperfection doesn’t matter because you’re exactly where you’re meant to be.
Musically, the verses weave between past and future, while the chorus lingers in the present - a deliberate choice inspired by Theo’s tendency not to live anywhere but the moment. The result is a warm, feel-good track that stirs nostalgia and joy in equal measure.
Listeners can expect “Somewhere Shallow” to be the first taste of a new chapter for Theo Day - one marked by touching lyricism, layered melodies, and an expanded emotional range.
“I’m more confident in my creativity now,” he shares. “My music has shifted from coming to me to coming from me.”
You can listen to “Somewhere Shallow” as of today, August 13th, 2025, on all streaming platforms via this LINK.
